Chemical peel involves the application of a chemical to the skin to remove the surface layers. The choice of chemical depends on the depth of the creases in the skin and the degree of improvement desired. Trichloracetic acid (TCA) has a moderate effect. Phenol in various concentrations has a stronger action, and can achieve a more dramatic and long-lasting result. Peeling techniques have been refined in recent years, allowing more precise control and improved results. Chemical peel is generally performed under local anesthesia in a surgical facility in the doctor's office.
